Heavy rains, ranging nearly 3.5 inches of rain as observed by a local weather station, to up to 10 inches in places fell overnight Saturday into Sunday, causing minor flooding in lowland areas. 

No significant damage was recorded. However, one person had to be rescued by emergency crews from a car that tried to drive through water on a covered gravel road on Monday.

Around midday on Sunday, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) closed a section of State Highway 124 east of Fayette near Harrisburg due to the overflow of Moniteau Creek.  

Flooding also covered several gravel roads and blacktops in the area. County roads 342, 331, 336, and 222 were all reported impassible due to water over the road. Portions of State Routes Z and H were also closed. 

The rain came as somewhat of a relief to farmers, filling ponds and watering pastures, although it would have been more welcomed had it not fallen all at once. Last month was the 53rd driest March on record over the past 130 years and the 35th driest year to date over the past 130 years, with 1.46 inches of precipitation below average, according to the National Integrated Drought Information System. 

The U.S. Drought Monitor currently lists Howard County as experiencing a moderate drought.
