The Harrisburg boys’ track team, for the second year in a row, came away with the gold at the Lewis & Clark conference track meet Monday. The Lady Bulldogs were able to put on quite a show as well, finishing second.

Harrisburg’s boys soundly defeated second-place finisher and meet host Westran 177-110 while the girls finished just behind Marceline at 174-160.

Sophomore Hunter Cole was the high point scorer for the Bulldogs with first-place finishes in both the 100-     and 200-meter sprints. Cole added to his point total with a second-place finish in the 400. Cole was also a member of the 4x200-meter relay team along with senior Travis Gardiner, senior Jace Carr, and junior Harley Whitaker, which finished first.

Sophomore Hayven Samuels swept the distance runs by finishing first in the 800-, 1600-, and 3200-meter runs.

In the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, senior Travis Gardiner took home the gold.

While no Harrisburg field athlete finished in first, four earned second-place finishes to add to the team total.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Kaydence Timbrook won the 100-meter dash and classmate Emma Fischer finished first in the 1600-meter run. Timbrook added a second-place finish in the 200 and Fischer finished second in the 800 to add to the Lady Bulldog team total.

Harrisburg’s 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Timbrook, freshman Ella Schwandt, freshman Macie Ellis, and junior Austyn Anderson took first place.

Junior Brecca Thornhill finished first in the triple jump.

The two teams competed on Tuesday in Paris, Missouri after The Advertiser went to press.
