Fayette

Fayette finished out its regular season last Thursday with a convincing 20-5 win over Missouri Military Academy. The win took the Falcon record to 2-13.

Juniors Haden Kelly and Alex McBain led the attack with two hits apiece. Both of McBain’s hits were doubles and he had three RBIs. Sophomore Jayden Shiflett also contributed a double.

Seniors Tyler Bartholomew and Logan Wiswall each drove in two runs. Classmate Chris Brown went the distance on the mound, striking out five while giving up only six hits.

The following night in the opening round of the district playoffs, the tables were turned on the Falcons as Northwestern won 18-8.

The Falcons fell behind in the first inning 2-0, but clawed back with one run in the second, one in the third, and three more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Northwestern dropped five on the Falcons in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead 7-5.

Fayette bounced right back with two more in the top of the fifth to tie the game at seven.

Fayette held Northwestern scoreless in the bottom of the fifth and came on in the top of the sixth to take a one run lead at 8-7.

Northwestern, however, would roar back with 11 runs in the bottom of the inning to cause the game to be ended by the 10-run mercy rule.

Junior Gage Sulltrop and senior Tyler Bartholomew each had two hits in the loss.

Fayette ended its season at 2-14.

Glasgow

The YellowJackets started strong in the the Class 1, District 12 playoffs by downing Wellsville-Middleton 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday.

Juniors Deklan Himmelberg, and Alan Westhues, along with senior Drew Sanders each added a hit to contribute to the win.

Himmelberg and Sanders toed the rubber for Glasgow, giving up three hits between them.

On Monday the YellowJackets found themselves on the short end of a 15-0 loss to Cairo which forced them out of the district playoffs. The loss left Glasgow with a season record of 9-12. Further details were not available at press time.

Harrisburg

The Harrisburg Bulldogs seem to be getting hot at an opportune time. The No. 3 seed, Harrisburg faced off against sixth-seeded Slater on Friday in the Class 2, District 7 tournament, defeating the Wildcats 10-0 to advance to the semifinal round against the No. 2 seed New Franklin.

By virtue of seedings, Harrisburg found itself as visitors on its home field. That did not seem to deter the Bulldogs as they racked up 14 hits to defeat New Franklin 8-5.

Senior Trevor Smoot pounded a double and two singles to lead the Harrisburg offensive attack. Juniors Brayden Ott, and Joshua Cochran, along with freshman Ike Demuth, each contributed doubles.

Junior Logan Fritts started for Harrisburg and went six innings giving up six hits while striking out 8. Fritts gave way to junior Anthony Alicea in the seventh. Alicea stuck out one in his one inning of work.

Harrisburg will now move to the championship game against the No.1 seed Salisbury today at 6 p.m.in Harrisburg.

Higbee

The Tigers won the first game of the Class 1, District 12 tournament by defeating Madison on Thursday 10-0.

That win moved Higbee to the next round on Monday to face Community.

Once again, Higbee emerged victorious with a 4-0 win. Details of that win were not available at press time.

Higbee was set to face Northeast (Cairo) on Tuesday in the district championship game after The Advertiser went to press.

New Franklin

The New Franklin Bulldogs suffered a disappointing end to their 2022 campaign with an 8-5 second-round loss to the Harrisburg Bulldogs on Monday.

“It was a disappointing way to end a season,” said coach Erich Gerding. “Umpiring definitely came into play in this game and it shouldn’t have. Combine that with almost a handful of weird bounces that went their way in the middle of the game and it was just too much to come back from.”

New Franklin benefitted from a double by sophomore Tanner Bishop and a triple by classmate Jake Marshall. Marshall and Bishop each added a single as well.

Junior Clayton Wilmsmeyer, sophomores Connor Wilmsmeyer and Drew Rhorer, along with senior Zaccary Vollrath-Roth, each contributed singles.

Senior Caleb Hull started for New Franklin and took the loss.

The Bulldogs finished the year at 12-6.
