Fayette boys-46

Going into hostile territory against 18-2 Westran, the 5-11 Fayette Falcons had a hard task in front of them. The Hornets lived up to their billing, defeating the Falcons 62-46. The loss moved Fayette to 0-4 in the Lewis and Clark conference.

“I thought we played very strong in the first half despite being down 27-15 at halftime,” said Fayette coach Jon Bishop. “This was our first game back after the snow and we might have looked a little rusty early.”

The second half turned out somewhat better for the Falcons as they scored 31 points to Westran’s 34. The Hornets’ first-half, 12-point lead proved too much, however, as the Falcons fell 62-46.

Senior Dalton Collins led the Falcons with 12 points on the night, while classmate Tyler Bartholomew and junior Ben Wells each scored eight.

Seniors Logan Wiswall and Chris Brown each scored six and junior Haden Kelly put in four. Classmate Theo Owings finished the game with two.

Fayette will host 2-16 New Bloomfield tonight at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming 7-11 Marceline on Friday night for the Courtwarming game at 7:30 p.m.

The teams played to a stalemate in the third quarter allowing Fayette to maintain its 10-point lead. The final stanza found Westran outscoring the Lady Falcons 12-9. It was not enough, however, as Fayette held on for the 45-38 win.

Junior Hannah Quint paced the Lady Falcons with 14 points while senior Laci Fuhlage hit for 12. Senior Sydney Spielbauer put in eight points while classmate Emma Chew added seven. Sophomores Allie Spielbauer and Addison Powell each contributed two.
