Preschool screening at Daly Elementary School

Anyone interested in scheduling a Preschool Screening appointment for the 2016-2017 school year  must call the Daly Elementary School Office at 248-3800.  

Screenings will take place on March 17 and 18 at the First Christian Church Multipurpose Building.  March 17 hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  March 18 hours are from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.  

There are limited spots so parents are encouraged to schedule an appointment early.

Kindergarten screening at Daly Elementary School

The time has come for the Fayette School District to identify those children who will be five years old before August 1, 2016. The Missouri Legislature set this date as the eligibility determination date. Screenings will take place on March 31 and April 1 at the First Christian Church Multipurpose Building. The screenings on March 31 are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  April 1 screening hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Higbee couple displaced by home fire

Two adults are receiving emergency assistance for food, clothing and shelter from the American Red Cross after a home fire Thursday in Randolph County.

Higbee Area Fire Protection firefighters were dispatched at 5:30 a.m. to the 9000 block of Highway AA, about six miles east of Higbee, and found a house filled with heavy smoke. Firefighters extinguished the source of the smoke in three and a half hours. The cause has not been determined. The house is likely restorable.

Road work planned for Howard County

The Missouri Department of Transportation will conduct roadwork in Howard County during daylight hours at Highway 87 over Greggs Creek, north of Highway 5 where bridge maintenance will take place Wednesday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 19. One lane will be open, and crews will flag traffic through the work area.

The following local student was named to the President’s List at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. This academic honor is achieved by earning a straight-A grade point average of 4.0 for the Fall 2015 semester:

  • Kirby Schoephoerster of Fayette, majoring in Classics, son of Paul and Lisa Schoephoerster

Registration is open until Feb. 24 for Howard County Soccer League

The time to register for the 2016 season of the Howard County Soccer League is now. Registration forms are due Feb. 24.

Children in grades pre-K through sixth grade are eligible to sign up and the fee is $20 per player ($30 for late registrations). Games will be played from March 20 through May 7.

Registration forms are available on the “Howard County Soccer” Facebook page and may be submitted to Tricia Mullanix at 2041 Highway 5 and 240, Fayette, MO 65248. For questions, call Mullanix at (816) 809-5570.
