The top four finishers from last weekend’s district track meets advance to Saturday’s sectional meets. The top four finishers there will move on to the state meet in Jefferson City the following weekend.

Fayette and Harrisburg competed at the Class 2 District 4 meet held in New Bloomfield on Saturday. The Falcon girls posted 16 top-four finishes, while the boys earned four. The Lady Bulldogs posted 19 top-four finishes while the boys had 14. Fayette and Harrisburg will compete on Saturday at the Class 2 Sectional 2 in Mokane.

Glasgow hosted the Class 1 District 3 meet, which included Higbee. The Yellowjackets earned 28 top-four finishes among both boys’ and girls’ teams, and all seven relay teams advanced. The Higbee teams will compete in seven total events this weekend. Both Glasgow and Higbee will compete at the Class 1 Sectional 2 in Montgomery County.

New Franklin competed in the Class 1 District 2 meet at New Haven. Three girls emerged in three events, and three boys in six individual events. Additionally, two relay teams advance to this weekend’s sectional meet at Hillsboro.

“It was a great day for both the Bulldog track teams,” said New Franklin coach Adam Quest. “Heading into the meet, I really challenged everyone to set a goal for themselves, and boy, did they ever deliver. They exceeded all expectations that I had for them. Nearly all of our athletes set either new personal bests or season best performances. I was very happy that so many of them got to finish the season on a positive note. Overall, this was probably the best district meet our boys have had in over 15 years. They ended up finishing 2nd overall, which won them a trophy.”

A highlight of the day for New Franklin was having two new school records set. Junior Lily Chitwood set a new standard in the mile run with a time of 5:45.42. Xander McGruder, Mason McGruder, Noah Hackman, and Quincy Dorson set a new record in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:06.86.
