Aubuchon and Bottomley qualify for Nationals

Three CMU athletes qualified for Nationals while competing at the CMU Open on Saturday at Davis Field. 

Freshman Megan Aubuchon qualified for nationals in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.80, good enough for a first place finish. On the men's side, Harrisburg native Taylor Bottomley hit qualifying standards in both the hammer throw and discus. 

Aubuchon also posted a second place finish in the high jump at 1.55 meters, followed by freshman Sadie Heisner with a second place finish. Heisner and classmate Carter Hawkins finished 1-2 in the pole vault with marks of 3.35 and 3.10 meters respectively. Sophomore Kailey Johnson, junior Kaitlyn Weber, and sophomore Sarah Johnson swept the podium in the long jump, as did Weber, Heisner, and Johnson in the triple jump. 

Junior Madeline Wieseman finished second in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.13 and Fayette native, senior Jada Gaines placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 12.64 seconds. 

On the men's side, in the 100-meter dash, freshman Adam Trachsel finished second with a time of 11 seconds flat. 

Freshman Ethan Smith won the men's pole vault, reaching a height of over 13 feet. Another Fayette native, freshman Josh Henderson and classmate Colder Evans finished 2-3 behind Bottomley in the discus with marks of 44.10 and 41.87 meters respectively. Bottomley won the event with a final toss of 48.47 meters. He also won the hammer with a throw of 60.10 meters.

Henderson placed third in the shot put at 13.01 meters and senior Alexander Ayala placed second in the 200-meter dash in 22.99 seconds. 

Freshman Evan Workman finished third in the javelin with a throw of 41 meters. Senior distance runner Shawn Kiptoo placed third in the men's 1500-meter run in a time of 4:09.40. Sophomore Brennan Moots won the 110-meter hurdles with a final time of 14.86 and  classmate Ayton Bar-Shimon placed second in the men's 400-meter dash.

Central will next compete in the Margaret Simmons Invite on March 25-26, in Murray, Kentucky.
