Bailey joins reinstated Eagle golf program

Golf is coming back to Central Methodist in the fall and New Franklin’s Carter Bailey will be a member of the first recruiting class for the revived Eagles.

CMU suspended both the men’s and women’s golf programs following the 2016-17 season, but both will be back under new head coach Stephen Main.

“Carter is currently rehabilitating from ACL surgery but once he is fully fit, we are super excited to watch how he matures and grows in our program,” Main said.

“We believe it’s going to be very exciting watching him over the next few years.”

The Eagle golf program was last active from 2009-2017, with the men taking a conference title in 2013 under Jim Ray Cluck. Main was an assistant coach with the women’s soccer team for two seasons before taking over the golf programs.

“From my first campus visit, I felt like I had a great connection with Stephen Main, the head golf coach,” Bailey said. “He’s a great guy and genuinely interested in helping students excel in academics and athletics.”

Bailey graduated from New Franklin in June and will study athletic training at Central Methodist in the fall. He was drawn to CMU by the reputation of the academics in that area, as well as the Master of Science in Athletic Training program which allows a student to complete an undergrad and graduate program in just five years. The Fayette campus was also a good fit.

“The CMU campus has a great feel,” Bailey said.

“I like the size of the campus and the opportunity to know my professors. That type of connection is important to me. I’m looking forward to being on campus in August.”

Central Methodist will play its home meets at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville. Bailey is excited about getting the opportunity to continue his athletic career at the collegiate level.

“I enjoy playing golf and like being outdoors,” he said. “I’m excited to be a part of the golf program at CMU and look forward to meeting my teammates.”
