Emmet’s Kitchen & Tap, a downtown Fayette landmark for more than two decades, announced Tuesday morning it would close immediately.
Managers Brandy Asbury and Matt Buckman have been running the restaurant the last five years since founder Rob Schluckebier passed away in September 2019.
A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said Asbury and Buckman had been planning to own the restaurant ever since. “Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control we will not be able to realize our dream and officially closing the doors today,” the post reads.
Schluckebier, who’s middle name was “Emmet,” was a native of Salisbury. He founded the restaurant in July 2003 after serving as chef at the eatery’s predecessor, The Fountain Cafe. He attended culinary school in Chicago apprenticed under famed chef Emeril Lagasse.
