Big third inning helps Falcons top Lady Bulldogs 11-4

Fayette put up seven runs in the third inning, turning a one-run advantage into a comfortable lead in a 11-4 win over New Franklin.

Fayette coach Mike James moved Addison Newell into the second spot in the batting order on Friday, and the sophomore responded by driving in three runs.

Newell’s two-run double in the second inning gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

In the third inning, two runs scored on Madi Lawson’s bases-loaded single. Megan Lewis drove in two runs with a double to put the Falcons up by seven. Breanna Estes, who started the inning with a double, drove in a run with her second hit of the inning to put Fayette ahead 10-2.

Lawson and Lewis each finished 2-4 with two RBI. Estes was 3-4 at the plate.

Kayce Hundley pulled New Franklin with a run in the third inning with a two-run triple that settled at the bottom of the right field fence.

Carly Dorson and Annie Benner each had an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Abby Maupin had a leadoff double in the first inning. Isabelle Matney and Sophia Held each had a hit.

Jordyn Ball picked up the victory in the circle. She allowed three earned runs on six hits and four walks over seven innings. She struck out 10.

Hannah Quint drove in the Falcons’ first run of the game with a single in the first inning.

Abby Nation, Bella Asbury and Preslee Sunderland each had a hit as well.

After going 3-18 with runners in scoring position in losses on Wednesday and Thursday, the Falcons were 8-21 in those situations on Friday.
