On January 31, Fayette senior defensive tackle Chris Brown participated in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.
Brown took part in a combine this past summer in Kansas City, one of several staged across the country. He was then selected to play the game in Tampa, Florida at Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Blue-Grey Football was established in 1989 by founders Gus and Erik Bell. Together, the father-and-son team established the brand to help high school prospects from all over the country receive national exposure and increase their chances to secure scholarships to a college, whether that be at the NCAA Division I level, Div. II or III, also NAIA or junior colleges.
“I went to the combine this summer, then they sent me an invitation during the football season,” said Brown. “It was a great experience to be able to play against different competition from across America and the world. I got to get out there and show me what I can do.”
Brown was able to record two sacks during the game along with three tackles. “I had the game-winning sack,” said Brown. “I played against a lot of D-1 commits that created more of a challenge. Going against them definitely showed me where I stand with my talent. I feel like I did pretty good and overcame a lot.”
Brown played for Team North which won 34-27.
“It was just a good experience,” said Brown.
Alumni of the game with some local notoriety include Chiefs receiver Byron Pringle and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
