She taught at various elementary schools in St. Louis County, teaching remedial reading for Rockwood School District, 1969-87, while living in Ellisville, Missouri.
She loved hiking, camping, and birdwatching. During the 1960s when Carolyn and John were both teaching, they traveled the county in their VW Microbus during the summers.
Upon retirement on a farm near Higbee, Carolyn raised sheep with her husband and son.
