Cary Wayne Lang, age 78, of New Franklin passed away July 12, 2022 at Boone Health in Columbia after spending the morning doing what he loved to do – mowing his yard.

Cary was born in Boonville on July 18, 1943, a son of Donald Eugene and Helen Amick Lang. He married Wanda Weesen at the New Franklin United Methodist Church on April 10, 1965.

Cary was a 1961 graduate of New Franklin High School, served his nation in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of the New Franklin United Methodist Church. He began his working life as a paper boy in New Franklin. Cary was employed as a Safeway Store assistant manager in Columbia and was employed at Jim’s IGA and Jennings Premium Meats in New Franklin. He was later employed with MKT Railroad as a brakeman and conductor. He retired as a lab courier with Columbia Regional Hospital.

Cary’s favorite activities involved his grandkids sports activities, meticulously caring for his lawn, going trout fishing at Bennett Springs and loved to go out and eat – as he said, “it was all about the food.”

Survivors include his wife Wanda of New Franklin; children, Cheryl (Dale) Monteer, Tracy ( Matt) Young and Jason (Kendra) Lang, all of Boonville and his grandchildren, Hillary Lixey, Adam (Amanda) Lixey, Tyler (Regan) Young, Madison Young, Abby Lang, Emma Lang and Carrie Lang and a great-grandchild due in January 2023. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Sherry Lang of New Franklin and nephews, Kevin and Kurt Lang and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenny Lang and a nephew, Kirk Lang.

A Celebration of Life Service honoring Cary will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A private family burial will be at a later date at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.
