Glasgow resident, Catherine Schaefer, age 80, passed away at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, on March 20, 2023.

Catherine Ann Schaefer was born October 11, 1942, in Glasgow, Missouri. She was one of five children born to the late George and Agnes (Fuemmeler) Hammons. Catherine attended grades 1st-6th at Armstrong Elementary and 7th-8th at St. Mary School. She graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 1960. On May 19, 1962, Catherine married the love of her life, Ronald Schaefer, at St. Mary Church. This past spring, the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Catherine worked primarily as a cook for Glasgow Schools, starting in 1985 and working until 1997. Catherine was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, active in Town and Country Club, and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and tending to her flower gardens. Catherine was a devout Catholic and was active within the church. She helped make crafts for the fall dinner, and for numerous years, alongside her husband, organized funeral dinners for countless parish members.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Schaefer of Glasgow; three children, Debbie (David) Lyons, Gary Schaefer, and significant other, Sara Holtwick Massie, and David (Diahann) Schaefer, all of Glasgow; six grandchildren, Angela, Holly, Jacque, Savannah, Christian, and Lucas; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Sammy; four siblings, Myrt (Don) Sanders of Glasgow, Larry “Woody” (Rhonda) Hammons of Armstrong, Pat (Anthony) Westhues of Glasgow and Barbara (Dick) Partise of Glasgow; and a sister-in-law, Goldie (Bud) Schaefer of Olathe, Kansas.

Visitation was 5–7 p.m., Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. Rosary was at 4:30 p.m., prior to the visitation, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m., Friday, March 24, at St. Mary Church in Glasgow, with Fr. Joshua Duncan officiating. Interment  followed the service at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Armstrong.
