Central Methodist began competition at the 2022 NAIA Mens’ Golf National Championships Tuesday through Friday of last week at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
The 70th annual event features 156 players, consisting of 20 automatic qualifying teams that won their respective conferences or independent tournaments, or were ranked in the final Top 25 for the second automatic berth of the conference. One host berth was awarded to St. Ambrose in addition to seven teams receiving an at-large berth.
The Eagles clinched an automatic berth after winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time since the 2013 season. Overall, Central posted seven top-three finishes in 2021-22, including the tournament title at the CMU Invite this past September.
Central has five players qualified to play in the championship. Those players are junior Cade Basson, freshman Tomas Lopez Mazzalay, junior Tiago Swart, sophomore Aaron Treece, and senior Matias Baccolla.
Central opened tournament play on Monday, and will play through today.
