Higbee senior Seth Kirby signed with the Eagles on Tuesday morning and will join his brother Noah at CMU in the fall.

Kirby hit .357 for the Tiger baseball team in the fall. He had over half of the Tigers’ hard-hit balls and scored a quarter of Higbee’s runs.

CMU sophomore Noah Kirby saw action on the mound with the Central Methodist reserve team during his freshman season.

“The Kirby family has been great to us and we’re excited to get his brother for sure,” CMU coach Nate Breland said.

“I think he’ll bring hard work, athleticism. You can tell he’s got a little swag or spunk to him. I think he’ll bring good energy and that hometown atmosphere that we need.”

Kirby plans to study business or sports science and is excited to join a team that won over 71 percent of its games during the past four seasons (162-65).

“It’s a good program, I’m excited to be on a winning team,” Kirby said.

“They like to have a lot of fun and they’re good fundamentally. It’ll be nice to be a part of a good program.”

The Central Methodist baseball team finished last season with a record of 35-16 and is ranked 20th in the preseason NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Poll. The Eagles opening day will be January 31 at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. The first home game is scheduled for February 22.

While the 2020 season is just days away, coach Breland is excited about what Kirby and the rest of the incoming class will do in the future at CMU.

“I’m excited about the character,” he said about the signing class.

“I think we went out and probably brought in the best character group that we’ve had here in my seven years, from an academic standpoint, with great supportive parents. But also talented. A lot of these kids are very diverse and can play a lot of positions so we’ll see how things play out in the fall.”
