Central Methodist University will host its third annual Leadership Institute for United Methodist Church leaders and lay persons Tuesday. More than 100 participants are expected to attend the one-day session in the CMU Student and Community Center.

Featured speakers are the Rev. Adam Hamilton, founding pastor of the 12,000-member United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kan., and the Rev. Bob Farr, director of the Center for Congregational Excellence for the Missouri Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Hamilton’s presentation is titled “Why the UMC is Well Positioned for the Next Great Awakening.” The title of Farr’s presentation is “Renovate or Die: How to Become an Outwardly Focused Church!”

Hamilton lectures on leadership, evangelism and preaching across the country. He has authored seven books and several small group study guides and received numerous awards for his work in church leadership. He currently serves as a trustee at Saint Paul School of Theology and as a member of the Kansas East Conference Board of Professional Ministry.

Farr was the founding pastor of a new church start in Lee’s Summit called Grace United Methodist Church, and his most recent appointment was at Church of the Shepherd in St. Charles, where he led the congregation through relocation of the church which resulted in the worship attendance doubling to nearly 1,100 members. In his current position, Farr assists with the pastor leadership development program, church consulting, relocations, mergers and new church starts.
