CMU softball has warranted all types of awards for the 2022 season. Besides winning the Heart regular season and tournament titles, the team put together a 28-game winning streak. That streak lasted just six days shy of two full months without a loss. In 45 games, the Lady Eagles have suffered only five losses.

For the fourth straight season, CMU head coach Pat Reardon’s team has landed nine or more members on the Heart all-conference team.

This season also finds coach Reardon being given the nod as Coach of the Year. Also being honored as Player of the Year was sophomore Madison White. Freshman pitcher Mykala Johnico received the Newcomer of the Year award as well.

In addition to being named player of the year, White was named to the All-Conference team. Currently, White leads the team in batting average (.468), home runs (14), doubles (15), hits (58), runs batted in (46), on-base percentage (.553), and slugging percentage (.927). White is the second Eagle in a row to claim the Player of the Year award following senior Kelli Gorman who was honored in 2021.

Johnico, in addition to being named a first-team All-Conference player, was named Freshman of the Year after posting a 14-0 record during the regular season. Johnico amassed three no-hitters during her freshman year and struck out 137 batters while throwing 11 complete games. Another Eagle, Macaela Harcrow earned the Freshman of the Year award last season.

Reardon’s award comes on the heels of guiding Central to its eighth regular-season championship in 2022. Coach Reardon currently owns an astounding 887 career wins in 30 years at the helm of the program.

Senior pitcher Keighlan Cronin is now a three-time First Team All-Conference selection, as she was honored as both a junior in 2021 and a freshman in 2019. Cronin posted a 19-1 record with a 1.26 earned run average. She broke the CMU career strikeout record this season surpassing 597 strikeouts over her career.

Junior Katelyn Kiser was also recognized as a First-team All-conference performer for the 2022 season. She hit .411 with nine doubles and two home runs.

Kelli Gorman also was named to the first-team All-Conference team. The senior marked her fourth trip to the team with 2022 being the second year on the first team. Gorman notched a .368 batting average with seven doubles, two triples, and seven home runs. She also drove in 31 runners and drew 11 walks.

The sixth Eagle to make the first-team was sophomore Micaela Harcrow, who finished third on the team with 52 hits and tied for second with 12 doubles. She recorded a .430 batting average with 39 RBIs. Harcrow is now a two-time First Team All-Conference selection.

The seventh member of the Eagles to garner first-team honors was Kelena Oots. The sophomore has batted .393 with four doubles and two triples. She has also committed just one error as Central’s starting center fielder, finishing the year with a .978 fielding percentage.

Senior Madison Love was named to the second team after earning first-team honors as a junior in 2021. Love has tallied a .376 batting average with 44 total hits, including nine for extra bases. In addition, the senior from New Bloomfield appeared in nine games with seven starts as a pitcher, posting a 3-3 record with a 4.77 earned run average.

Rounding out the CMU All-Conference honorees was freshman Mykayla Pennell who earned honorable mention honors. Pennell batted .345 from the designated player position, collecting 20 hits and scoring 10 runs. She also drove in 15 RBI and drew seven walks.
