Central women shut out Baker

The No. 5 Central Methodist women’s soccer team secured its fourth consecutive shut out with a win over Heart rival Baker University 2-0 Saturday night in Boonville, Missouri.

With the win, the Eagles improve their overall record to 10-1 and remain perfect at 7-0 in conference action. Baker now stands at 7-4-1 and 3-3-1 in the Heart. 

Both sides remained scoreless for the first 35 minutes of action. Then in the 36th minute, junior Maria Cervello scored her third goal of the season, giving CMU a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break. 

Sophomore defender Alicia Zamora sealed the victory for Central in the 88th minute of play, scoring off an assist from Cervello and senior Andrea Villar to close the match. 

As a team, the Eagles finished the evening with 21 total shots including six on goal. While Baker managed just five shots with three coming on goal. 

Freshman Roneisha Frank led all players with seven shots, followed by Villar with four shots and two on goal. Freshman Grace Reynolds earned her fourth straight start in between the posts, collecting three saves in a full 90 minutes of action to earn the win. 

Central hosts Grand View University tonight in a rescheduled match, at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
