The City of Fayette will receive an ISO rating of 6. Assistant City Clerk Rebecca Yung reported to the city council at its regular meeting on October 12, that information from the fire department was successfully submitted.
In May 2019 the city received a report by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) along with a letter stating the city’s rating would drop from a 5 to a 7. ISO ratings factor into property insurance rates for citizens. The change in rate could ultimately make property in Fayette more expensive to insure.
The ISO collects and evaluates information from communities across the country on fire suppression capabilities. Each city receives a score and classification. Insurance rates are based on these classifications. The lower the classification, the lower the insurance rates. Large cities with 24-hour fully-equipped fire departments have the ability to reach a 1 rating. Towns with no coverage at all rate closer to a 10.
Fayette has been at a classification rating of ‘5’ for several years. The letter from ISO stated the rating would be dropped to a 7. To prevent this significant classification change, the city had an opportunity to correct what ISO listed as problems.
With the last of such corrections sent, the city’s new rating will be downgraded to a 6.
