Howard County Clerk Shelly Howell predicts an enormous turnout, predicting between 80 and 85% of registered voters will cast ballots during this year’s General Election.
Already, 395 early voters have turned in ballots by Monday afternoon. The Clerk sent out 116 mail-in ballots before the deadline on October 23.
In the last presidential election, held on November 3, 2020, 73.34% of registered Howard County voters cast ballots.
The Presidential and Gubernatorial elections, along with the race for U.S. Senator and other statewide offices and Missouri constitutional amendments, are expected to drive voters to the polls.
Locally, elections for sheriff, the county commission, coroner, assessor, and public administrator are all uncontested with incumbents on the ballot.
Likewise, Circuit 14 Presiding Judge Scott Hayes is also unchallenged for another term.
Polls on Election Day will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. A list of polling places is printed alongside the ballots on Page 5 of this newspaper.
The Clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, November 2, for in-person absentee voting. The deadline to vote absentee in-person is 5 p.m. on Monday, November 4.
