The Clark Middle School softball team went 3-0 in Moberly on Saturday to claim the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament championship.

The Falcons put up 50 runs over 14 innings and defeated Salisbury 18-9 in the tournament final to claim the title.

“Offensively, we were very aggressive while still being disciplined at the plate,” coach Charlie Trick said.

“As a coaching staff we are extremely proud of what this team has accomplished. They have been working hard since our offseason camps in late July, and now are enjoying the benefits of that work.”

Skylar Sunderland doubled and tripled, driving in four runs for CMS in the championship game. Sunderland also pitched all five innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits and two walks, striking out five.

Payton Kindle scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning. She hit a two-out single, stole second base and crossed the plate on a passed ball.

The Falcons got off to a great start in the championship game with five runs in the first inning. Browyn Eubanks and Cayle John both reached on errors and Sunderland’s triple scored two runs Kindle drove in a run with a single and another run crossed when the Panthers misplayed a bunt from Leah Thies.

Thies would score on a passed ball, giving the Falcons a 5-0 lead before the first out of the game was recorded.

Salisbury came back to tie the game at 8-8, but Fayette scored three runs in the fourth inning and seven more in the fifth to put the game away. Thies had a two-RBI triple in the fifth inning.

Whitley Sunderland was 3-3 at the plate with three RBI in a 11-0 win over Westran in the second game of the day.

Whitley Sunderland, Melissa Innes, Mariah Felten, and Eubanks each had an RBI hit during a seven-run third inning. Skylar Sunderland struck out 11 batters, while allowing five hits and a walk in the shutout.

John hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in Clark Middle School’s 21-1 win over Schuyler County. John finished the game with six RBI.

Eubanks was 3-5 with two RBI. Kindle was 2-4 with two runs driven in, and Mariah Felten was 2-4 as well. Thies had a walk, a single and a double.

Kindle and Skylar Sunderland combined for a no-hitter, allowing one unearned run on two walks over four innings.

“Throughout the tournament, our pitching staff dominated the strike zone and did everything asked of them and more,” Trick said.
