The Central Methodist baseball program fell to No. 9 in the third edition of the NAIA Baseball Coaches Top 25 poll, released by the national office on April 6. The Eagles were previously ranked No. 7 but dropped two games to Baker and one to Missouri Valley to fall to ninth.
The only other Heart program featured in the national poll is Clarke University which received votes but not enough to reach the top 25. At the time of the ranking, Central boasted an overall record of 27-6 and a 13-3 mark in conference play, good enough to sit in first place in the Heart standings.
Junior shortstop Robbie Merced leads the nation in runs batted in (63) and is tied for first place nationally in home runs (20). The 20 home runs are tied for the most home runs in Central history. Sophomore outfielder Bobby Nichols is No. 2 in the nation with 39 stolen bases.
Central took three of four games from Mount Mercy over the weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
