CMU extends winning streak to 24 games

With a 5-1 and 10-0 home sweep of Baker on Sunday afternoon, the CMU Eagles extended their win streak to 22 games and 11 straight doubleheader sweeps. The Eagles have not lost since March 13 when Baker overtook them 10-8 at Baldwin City, Kansas. The wins move Central’s record to 31-4 overall and 23-1 in conference play.

The game one victory Sunday came on the back of hurler Keighlan Cronin. The senior was masterful in the circle, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out three in seven innings of work. 

Sophomore right fielder Micaela Harcrow led CMU in hitting, going three-for-four with three RBIs.

Sophomore leadoff hitter Kelena Oots set the table for Harcrow and classmate Madison White, scoring three runs from the leadoff spot and going three-for-three with a triple. Harcrow drove in three while White plated two.

Freshman second baseman Daly Garland went two-for-three with a run. Senior Kelli Gorman rounded out the CMU hitting with a single.

In the second game, CMU needed only the third and fourth innings to put away the Wildcats. Central put six runs on the board in the third and four in the fourth made quick work of Baker.

Freshman Mykala Johnico continued to dominate while in the circle, facing 18 batters and striking out four while giving up only two hits and no walks.

Freshman catcher Lauren Hill drove in three runs, going three-for-three in the game. Harcrow continued to drive the ball with a perfect three-for-three in the second game to add to her three hits in the first to finish the day at six-for-seven.

Senior first baseman Madison Love drove in two with two hits while Oots, White, Garland, and senior Macey Harrington each added singles.

Late Monday afternoon, CMU traveled to Springfield to face Evangel in a doubleheader. Central took the first game 5-0. The Eagles followed that up with an 8-0 win in the second game. Cronin earned her16th win in the first, while Johnico raised her record to 13-0.  

The Eagles faced MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday in Olathe, Kansas after The Advertiser went to press. They will travel to Marshall on Friday to take on Missouri Valley before returning home on Saturday for a twin bill with Evangel starting at 1 p.m.
