The No. 11 Central Methodist Softball team secured its fourth-consecutive doubleheader sweep Sunday afternoon, defeating William Penn by scores of 6-1 and 1-0 at home.
The Eagles improve their overall record to 17-4 and 9-1 in conference play. William Penn falls to 12-12 and 5-5 in the Heart.
In game one, the Statesmen jumped out on the scoreboard first via an RBI-single in the second inning. Central responded with a pair of runs on a two-RBI single from junior Kaylee Parker in the bottom half of the frame.
CMU added two more runs in the third, this time on RBI-doubles from sophomore Madison White and junior Katelyn Kiser. The Eagles scored their final two runs in the fifth inning when senior outfielder Kelli Gorman blasted a solo home run to left field. After that, a double from sophomore Micaela Harcrow scored senior Madison Love from first, making the final score 6-1 in favor of Central.
CMU scored six runs on eight hits with two walks. The Central bats only struck out once and left four runners on base.
Senior ace Keighlan Cronin earned her eighth win in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing only three hits while delivering 10 strikeouts.
Game two’s only run came in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Kiser was hit by a pitch which sent Gorman home from third.
Leading 1-0, Central freshman Mykala Johnico shut down William Penn, tossing seven scoreless innings and giving up only two hits and one walk. She finished the afternoon with 10 strikeouts en route to her sixth win of the year.
CMU will next host MidAmerica Nazarene University today at 4 p.m. at Cox Softball Complex.
