CMU volleyball coach promoted

Central Methodist Head Volleyball Coach Coleman Lee announced the promotion of assistant coach Garrett Case to Associate Head Coach.

“We are extremely excited to promote Coach Case to Associate Head Coach on our staff,” said Coach Lee.

Since coming to Central Methodist, Garrett has helped the program earn a bid to the National Tournament in three straight seasons including a Conference Tournament Championship in 2019. Prior to his arrival, CMU’s volleyball team had never been included among the Top 10 teams in a National Poll.

In 2020, the Eagles finished the year 15-7 overall and 9-3 in the Heart. The team made its second consecutive Heart Tournament Championship appearance, and an appearance in the Round of 16 of the National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.

“In the past two seasons, CMU has not only set new records for highest achieved position in the National Poll but also finished tied for ninth in back-to-back National Tournament runs,” added Lee. “Garrett's main role on the team is developing our athletes and improving their skills through individual training. Since adding positional training with Coach Case to our daily routine, Central has notched four All-Americans as well as a combined 21 All-Conference selections. He has also mentored two Freshman of the Year winners in back-to-back seasons. There is no doubt in my mind that promoting Garrett into a larger role on the team will add to our continued success while building upon the tradition created following his arrival.”

In the past three seasons, Central has posted an 80-19 overall record including a 40-6 mark in conference action.

“I would like to thank Coleman Lee and Natasha Wilson for this opportunity,” said Case. “It is a huge blessing, and I'm very honored and excited to continue helping the CMU volleyball program reach new heights. Go Eagles.”

Prior to coming to Central Methodist, Case spent one season as the assistant coach at Seward County Community College. In his lone season on the bench, he helped lead the team to a 33-2 mark, the Western Jayhawk Conference Championship, and a No. 3 national ranking. Case also produced five All-Region athletes with one First Team All-American.

Case also has experience at the NCAA D-I level, serving the Missouri State volleyball program for four seasons. After spending three seasons as the Bears manager, Case spent 2016 as a volunteer assistant. While at Missouri State, Case worked with statistical analysis and video breakdown, as well as aiding in practice and camps.

Case is a graduate of Missouri State University, where he graduated with a degree in Sociology, with a minor in Biomedical Sciences.
