The Central Methodist women's basketball program jumped one spot to No. 13 in the fourth edition of the NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced by the national office Wednesday.
Other Heart programs mentioned or featured in the Top 25 include No. 12 Clarke and Grand View. While Grand View received votes it was not enough crack the Top 25.
At the time the poll was announced, Central was on a six-game winning streak including a Top 25 win over, at the time, No. 25 Benedictine College back on Jan. 3 in Puckett Field House. The Eagles' current success has propelled them back up the Heart South Division standings with a 5-3 mark in conference action. As of Jan. 13, Central is in second place, just a half-game in back of Benedictine.
CMU is the No. 1 team in the conference in rebounds per game (47.3), assists (16.8), and No. 2 in points per game (79.1). The 47 rebounds per game are also good enough to land Central in the Top 10 in all of the NAIA.
Senior transfer Arleighshya McElroy leads the Central offense with 21.5 points per game, while junior forward Daryna Bachkarova is averaging 16.8 points per game. Fellow junior Eternati Willock has been a welcome addition to the Eagles' lineup in January, as the Scarborough, Ontario, Canada native is averaging a double-double with 10.2 points and a team-leading 11.6 rebounds per game.
