The No. 5 Central Methodist women’s soccer team extended its 2024 winning streak to three with a 3-1 decision over Kansas Wesleyan University at home Saturday evening.
It was the first match of the season for Kansas Wesleyan.
Central opened up the scoring in the 28th minute thanks to an unassisted goal by Kirstine Lykke, her fourth of the season.
After both sides fired off a couple more shots in the half, the score remained the same heading into the halftime break, with Central up by one.
The Coyotes came out firing in the second half, looking to even up the score as quickly as possible. They did just that in the 47th minute, when Precious Nwosu picked up her first goal of the Coyotes’ new season to even the match at 1-1.
The Eagles regrouped in a matter of minutes with a spark on offense.
Andrea Jimenez gave Central Methodist a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute, followed by a Lacey Ann Murray goal just nine minutes later.
With that, the Eagles were able to shut the door on the Coyotes and improve to 3-0 on the season, whereas Kansas Wesleyan falls to 0-1 to begin their slate.
CMU finished the evening with 13 total shots, including seven shots on goal. KWU finished with just four shots and three coming on goal.
Central remains home for their fourth straight match as they welcome Oklahoma Wesleyan at 4 p.m. on Friday at Davis Field.
