Postseason accolades keep pouring in for area high school basketball stars. Twenty players in the Advertiser’s coverage area were named by members of the media to the Central Missouri All-District team, while three were named All-State by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.
All-State selections include Harrisburg senior Trace Combs, along with Higbee juniors Lauren Spilman and Danny Janssen.
Combs and Janssen were also both named Player of the Year for their respective districts.
Combs scored more than 1,500 career points for the Bulldogs. He averaged 21.2 points and eight rebounds a game to go along with 3.4 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.2 assists a game.
Janssen, an All-CLAA junior, averaged 19.9 points and 7.7 rebounds a game this season, sinking a team-best 87 shots from the 3-point arc.
Spilman led the team with 15.4 points a game and sank a team-high 93 3-pointers this season.
Combs was also one of four media All-District selections for the Class 2 boys. Teammates Bryce Ott and Rylee Robinson also earned the distinction. As a senior, Ott averaged 10.6 points per game, followed by Robinson, a 6’2 junior, with 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Glasgow junior Jackson Meyer rounded out the area’s First Team selections. He led his team with 21 points and seven rebounds a game this season.
The Fayette boys were represented by Kaleb Friebe on the Second Team. The senior scored 12.3 points a game as the Falcons struggled in the first year of a rebuilding process.
Also on the Class 2 boys’ Second Team was Glasgow sophomore Kyler Kottman. The 6’4 Yellowjacket averaged a double-double this season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
All four Class 2 girls teams covered by the Advertiser were represented on the First Team. Fayette senior Oakleigh Hill led her team this season with 14.7 points a game.
New Franklin junior Lily Chitwood returned to the First Team list after averaging 20.6 points while sinking 53.8% from the field.
Glasgow junior Halle Fuemmeler earned First Team recognition after leading her team with 21.1 points a game, having scored more than 1,500 points in just three seasons.
Harrisburg junior Lorelai Hunziker rounded out the Class 2 girls’ First Team selections. At 5’9, she led the Lady Bulldogs with 17.9 points a game and sank 78 3-point baskets in her first season playing at Harrisburg.
Fayette senior Kebrea Fair earned Second Team recognition after surpassing 500 career rebounds late in the season. The 5’8 forward nearly averaged a double-double with 12.9 points and 9.6 rebounds.
Glasgow junior Karsyn Massie finished the season just shy of double-digit averages in two key categories. She scored 9.8 points per game and pulled down 9.7 rebounds to earn a spot on the Second Team.
Harrisburg senior Avelina McKinzie capped off the Class 2 girls Second Team selections after scoring 13.2 points a game to go along with three rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.9 steals a contest.
