Central Methodist University confirmed a student died on in her dorm room Friday evening. Nineteen-year-old Amalinn Hartley was found unresponsive in her residence hall room at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, April 11, when campus security facilitated a wellness check at the request of her family.
Ms. Hartley was a freshman from Vulcan, Mo., majoring in Marine Biology.
Local authorities are investigating the death but so far say no foul play is expected.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our student, and our hearts go out to her family and friends,” stated Dr. Roger Drake, Central Methodist University President. “During this very difficult time, we are supporting her family and the Central community in every way possible.”
On Saturday, the university opened counseling services for students, faculty, and staff members.
