The Central Methodist women’s basketball program wanted to keep Abbey Conrow in Fayette.

Early in her recruitment, things weren’t looking promising for the Eagles, but something changed over her senior season.

“I don’t think she had a lot of interest in staying close to home,” CMU coach Mike Davis said about his early efforts. “I think she was wanting to get out of town and get out. As the season went on and the year went on, she decided this was a good spot. I think when she visited, she really knew it was a great fit.”

Conrow signed her letter of intent in the Fayette High School library on Thursday.

“I guess it was just the visit and seeing all the people I know,” she said about the decision. “Knowing that I can’t leave the support of the community yet.”

Conrow plans to study in CMU’s occupational therapy assistant program, which ranks among the top in the state. The academic opportunities and the feel of the campus were part of the draw for Conrow.
“It just feels like home and it's really comfortable,” she said.

The Eagle basketball team will look much different next season with 13 players graduating, but the style of play will remain similar. Central Methodist ranked fifth in NAIA Division I with 285 3-pointers made this season, and 13th with a 3-point percentage of 35.2.

Conrow made 31 percent of her 3-point shots this season. Though many of her 246 attempts were difficult step-back shots or contested catch-and-shoot opportunities off of screens.

Playing with talented offensive creators could open up some better looks for Conrow at CMU, although the defenders will be longer, bigger, and faster as well.

“We’re excited to have her, she’s a great little scorer,” Davis said. “She’s someone who is a great competitor. When you watch her play, there’s a lot of fight to her. If anything, that may be this team’s greatest strength.

“She’s done a great job at Fayette and we’re looking forward to having her here. She’ll do great.”

Conrow is also looking forward to a new challenge, and being part of a successful CMU program.

“They work really well together and they’re so talented,” she said. “I’m really excited to play with some girls that I’ve never played with before. I love Coach Davis, his style of coaching. It’s definitely a faster pace, but I think that’s what I like, so I’m excited to be pushed a little bit.”
