Former Fayette, Missouri resident, Corine Walje, 95, passed away at Glasgow Gardens on January 25, 2022.

Mary Corine (Morlock) Walje was born October 11, 1926 in Tipton, Missouri, a daughter to the late Fredrick “Adolf” and Lena (Hearry) Morlock.  Corine graduated from Versailles High School with the class of 1947.  On July 3, 1949, she married James Albert Walje in Fayette, and together they had three children, Sandra, Daniel and Patsy.  They enjoyed over 51 years of marriage until James passed away on April 16, 2001.  Corine started her career by travelling to Boonville, Missouri, leaving her foster care home with only one suitcase with the dream of becoming a nurse.  She held various nursing jobs including being a surgical nurse.  She worked at Boonville Hospital, Lee Hospital, Keller Hospital, and ended her career as a home health nurse at the age of 82.  Corine loved nursing with all her heart, but nothing was more important to her than her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  When she was able, Corine enjoyed tending to her garden and canning produce.  She was a devout member of Grace Fellowship Church.

Survivors include two children, Sandra (Jack) Howard of Raleigh, North Carolina and Dan (Jean) Walje of Moberly, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Michael, Amy, Tim, Lisa, Sara, LeeAnn, Andrea, Megan and Kayla; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly.  In addition to her husband and parents, Corine was preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy Wies, three sisters, Pearl Leurhman, Minnie Johnson, and Nora Rosenhan, and one brother, Fred Morlock.

A funeral service honoring Mrs. Walje will be 2 PM, Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Rev. Gary Wrisberg officiating.  Visitation will be an hour before the service at the funeral home starting at 1 PM.  Burial will follow the service at Fayette City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Fellowship Church or Cancer Research, in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 174 Hwy. 5 & 240 N., Fayette, MO 65248.
