County Commission Declares State of Emergency

Declaration limits public access to county offices

Posted

The Howard County Courthouse will close to the public beginning today (Wednesday). The county commission signed a resolution Monday declaring a state of emergency for Howard County.

Courthouse doors will be locked to everyone except courthouse employees. However, county offices will remain open for business.

A press release from the commission states that county is taking a proactive approach against COVID-19 to protect the health of employees, customers, and communities.

The commission asks for anyone who needs assistance to call for an appointment before visiting the courthouse.

“You will be asked to answer a short questionnaire before entry. If you can answer no to all the questions, you will be allowed to enter the building with the office holder or staff,” the press release reads.

“Almost all requests can be handled online or over the phone, so if you are sick or have recently traveled, we ask that you refrain from coming into the building at all.

“We appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation as we all do our part to protect our citizens.”

Lists of all county office and phone numbers accompany the notices.
