Cunningham breaks CMU record in 400

The Central Methodist track and field programs competed at the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays Friday afternoon in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Junior Keiara-Ashley Cunningham broke the school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.31, hitting the ‘A’ standard for the national championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Her time is currently the fourth best in the NAIA this season.

Sophomore sprinter Kailey Johnson posted a third-place finish in the finals of 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.50. Sophomore Dayana Montenegro competed in the 800-meter run, and ran a time of 2:16.98, just missing the national-qualifying standard by .98 of a second.

Senior thrower and Harrisburg native,Taylor Bottomley finished fourth in the men’s shot put with a throw of 15.91 meters. He also placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 50.57 meters.

Central will next compete in the Georgia Tech Invite beginning Friday in Atlanta, Georgia, in addition to the Wildcat Open hosted by Culver-Stockton College on Saturday, in Canton, Missouri.
