David Laurence Dimond, 87, of Fayette, passed away on March 26, 2023.

Larry was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 11, 1935, a son of Joseph Earl & Dorothy Lee (Heady) Dimond.

Larry married Marilyn L Dickinson in June of 1958 in Fayette, and to that union, one son, Michael, was born. They separated in 1980, and in December 1981, he married Martha Becker in Ferguson, Missouri.

Larry graduated from Ferguson High School and attended Central College, Fayette, Missouri, and graduated in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration. He also attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois, and graduated with a Master of Science in Education and the University of Missouri, Columbia, and was conferred the degree of Doctor of Education. He taught public school in the St Louis area. At the personal invitation of Dr. Ralph Woodward, President of Central Methodist University, Larry was hired as the Dean of Men at Central Methodist in the summer of 1966. A few years later, he moved to the Department of Education at CMU, where he provided personal attention, education, and direction to hundreds of aspiring public school teachers until 1983, when he left CMU.

Larry and Marti owned and operated ‘Laurence’s Limited’ men’s clothing store on the square in Fayette for 10 years until Larry returned to education as an administrator in three different school districts in Missouri until his full retirement.

In 1980, Larry was elected Municipal Judge for the city of Fayette, a position he would hold for the next 30 years until reaching state-mandated retirement age in 2010. Through those years, Judge Dimond heard countless cases in Fayette Municipal Court and ruled with honesty and fairness. Judge Dimond was elected president of the Missouri Municipal Judge Association and was the first non-lawyer judge to serve in that capacity. After retiring as judge, Larry was elected to the city council in Fayette and continued serving his ward until 2020.

After retirement, Larry and Marti enjoyed living on Corprew Street, sitting on the porch and watching the activity at CMU, one of Larry’s most beloved places.

Larry was active in community and civic activities in Fayette, including past membership in the Fayette Lion’s Club and the Masonic Lodge, where he served multiple times as Master of the Lodge and also as a past District Deputy Grand Master, Order of Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron, Ararat Shrine, Scottish Rite, York Rite,  Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in Pack and Troop 62, and past member of the administrative board at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church.
