The last day, by statute, to mail out an absentee ballot for the upcoming August primary election is next Wednesday, July 22.
Howard County Clerk Shelly Howell asks anyone who intends to vote absentee to be sure the application has been received by the clerk’s office on or before that day. Anyone who has sent an application, but has not received a ballot, should contact the clerk’s office at (660) 248-2284 to verify it was received.
“We can email you, or mail you, another application,” Howell said.
The county clerk’s office has received $20,000 from a Help America Vote Act (HAVA) grant to be used for elections this year. “I have used that money to purchase electronic poll books,” Howell explained. “This should make the check-in process quicker and safer, as my judges will be able to sanitize the styli between each voter.”
Questions and concerns should be directed to the clerk’s office in the Howard County courthouse.
