Howard County Sheriff Polson had reason to smile Thursday evening as final preparations were made for the new $1.5 million Justice Center and Jail which was dedicated Saturday, April 10th. Speakers included Polson, county commissioners, the architect and a representative from EBCO Construction.

The project came in ahead of schedule and about $20,000 under budget. With the latest in electronic doors and monitoring devices, the new jail includes a dozen two-man cells to permit better separation of the inmate population. It was built with proceeds from a half-cent sales tax OK'd by voters in November 2002. It will house 30 persons, including women. The old (circa 1875) jail would hold about 20. New office space also will permit Polson's 12-member department to vacate space in the Howard County Courthouse.
