Demolition has begun on a set of buildings commonly referred to as the old bowling alley on South Church Street in Fayette. The buildings were purchased by Exchange Bank, which sits directly north. Shortly after the acquisition in late December, 2021, Exchange Bank President Don Brown said that the bank would likely demolish the buildings to make way for a new parking lot, which would in turn allow for the possible future expansion of the bank building.

It is not known when the buildings were erected, but are estimated to have been built sometime after 1925. They have been the sites of several businesses over the years, including a filling station, a Pontiac dealership, and a Breadeaux Pizza location. Most Fayette residents probably remember it as the former bowling alley, which operated for several decades. 

The buildings are the latest to be torn down after nearly a block of buildings were razed last month on the west side of the Fayette courthouse square. The aged and neglected buildings were brought down to make way for a new building that will house university students along with retail space.
