Mike Dimond announced he will resign as Executive Director of Fayette Main Street, Inc., effective Saturday, December 31, after nearly three years on the job.
Mr. Dimond was hired by Fayette Main Street in February 2020. Since then, the not-for-profit organization has grown considerably.
“I wish Main Street nothing but great success in the future,” Mr. Dimond said. “We’ve had such a great run.
“The things we’ve done in the last three years I’m extremely proud of,” he said. “I’m pleased with the growth and the volunteer structure.”
Mr. Dimond highlighted the expansion of the organization’s Christmas parade and program which went from a half-dozen entries to more than 40 with a light show and magic tree. “I think it’s really cool what we’ve done. We put Fayette on the map.”
A 1980 graduate of Fayette High School, Mr. Dimond graduated from Central Methodist College in 1985. He was named Executive Director for Fayette Main Street shortly after he moved back to Fayette following his retirement from a career with the Boys Scouts of America.
Looking back, Mr. Dimond said leading the effort to create the Historic Downtown Community Improvement District (CID) was one of the major accomplishments of Main Street during his time as Executive Director.
“I’m very proud of that,” he said. “And I’m very proud of the financial position that Main Street is in.
“I think the future of Main Street is bright. We have a solid board that cares about Fayette’s future, and is excited about taking Fayette Main Street from where we have it now, to the next level.”
Among Main Street’s ambitions is a project to revitalize North Main Street between the downtown square and the entrance to Central Methodist University. Plans include a new Main Street office, complete with public restrooms, an archway leading to campus, and other beautifications.
Current Fayette Main Street President, Deanna Cooper, said those plans are still in place, and the board will collectively continue forward momentum and focus toward the project.
“We wish Mike all the best with his next endeavor and appreciate all he has accomplished as Executive Director at Main Street,” Mrs. Cooper said.
The search process for next Executive Director for the organization has been initiated and the board looks to fill the position in the near future. A job description and application process will soon be posted on the Fayette Main Street website: fayettemainstreet.org, in addition to The Fayette Advertiser, and Missouri Main Street.
