District wins by Fayette and Harrisburg set up another Highway 124 showdown

Posted

Following wins by both the Fayette Falcons (9-1) and the Harrisburg Bulldogs (8-2), the stage has been set for Harrisburg’s second trip to Fayette this season.

This time the tide has turned as the Falcons are the No.1 seed in the Class 1, District 5 playoff bracket and the Bulldogs are the No. 4 seed.

Fayette is coming off its third 60-point showing of the season, having earlier in the season defeated Paris 60-30 and defeating both Father Tolton and Slater 66-24 in the last two games. Fayette seems to be clicking on all cylinders both offensively and defensively. If there is a chink In the armor, it might be the two-point conversion teams as the Falcons failed to convert on eight of their 10 two-point attempts Friday night. In addition, the defense allowed Slater to capitalize on two of its three attempts. The fact that the Falcons had the opportunity to attempt a conversion 10 times, however, tends to cover the lack of success in that area.

The Bulldogs will be going into the game following a solid win over Father Tolton. Tolton managed to keep within six points most of the first half, but Harrisburg got out to an early lead in the first quarter and never gave up that lead throughout the game. The closest Tolton was able to get to Harrisburg was just before the half when a bad snap allowed the Crusaders to pull to within four.

Harrisburg will travel west on Hwy. 124 Friday night for round 2 of the 2021 series. The game will start at 7 p.m.
