Fayette resident, Don Mounter, 80, passed away at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri on September 16, 2021.

Charles Donald Mounter was born August 25, 1941, in Fayette, Missouri, a son to the late Clyde A. and Sarah Bee (Crigler) Mounter. He graduated from Fayette High School with the class of 1959. Don served his country, enlisting in the United States Army in 1959. He was honorably discharged in January of 1960. On September 10, 1961, Don married the love of his life, Gail Edwards. Together, they enjoyed over 58 years of marriage, until Gail’s passing in May of 2020. Don retired from the post office in October 1992 after 31 years of service. For many years, he served the community as a deputy sheriff canine officer. Don enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing with his wife, daughters and grandsons. Clause for the annual Christmas festivities here in Fayette. He was also a founding contributor to the Fayette farmer’s market.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sarah (Ralph Horne) Mounter of Columbia, Missouri, and Mary (Jim) Lay of Franklin, Missouri; two grandsons, Ethan Lay and his fiancée, Molly Dwyer, and Nicholas Lay.

In addition to his wife and parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Mounter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette. A graveside memorial service for Mr. Mounter will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Fayette City Cemetery, with Rev. Harold Young officiating. Full military honors will follow the service.
