Longtime Howard County physician, Dr. William Marshall, 86, passed away peacefully September 25, 2021, at the Neighborhoods Care facility in Columbia, MO.

Dr. William G. Marshall was born November 20, 1934 in Gilman City, MO, a son to the late Garnet and Irene Marshall.  He graduated from Gilman City High School.  Doc furthered his education and earned his doctorate from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, fulfilling his dream of becoming a general practician doctor.  Dr. Marshall started his own practice and opened the Glasgow Medical Clinic in 1963, serving countless people from Glasgow and surrounding communities.  In June of 1982, Doc married Sandra Shaw in Fayette, MO.  Together, they’ve enjoyed over 39 years of marriage.  Doc continued working at the clinic for 50 years, retiring in 2013.  His dedication to helping those in need was second to none.  He’d often get called out after hours or in the middle of the night.  With no hesitation, Doc would meet the patient at their home or the clinic.  He even had patients show up at his house for care.  When he wasn’t working, Doc stayed active in sports and was very competitive.  He loved playing tennis, golf, ping-pong, and racquetball.  He enjoyed going skiing and was also involved in competitive target shooting for a number of years.  Dr. Marshall was one of a kind, and his compassion and care will be remembered and appreciated for many years to come.

Survivors include his wife Sandra Marshall, of Fayette, MO; six children, Susan, Kent, Georgia, Kolyn, Mason and Adam; five grandchildren, Stacy, Ben, Brian, Bruce, and Olivia; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Lilah, Harrison and Hazel; and one brother, Ed (Cathy) Marshall of Fayette.  In addition to his parents, Dr. Marshall was preceded in death by a son Greg Marshall, and two sisters, Boneta and Mareta.

Following Dr. Marshall’s final wishes, there will be no public funeral service.  It was also his final wishes that in lieu of memorial contributions, one should go out and perform a random act of kindness to a friend, relative or stranger.  Make some one’s day better by simply spreading a little bit of love and kindness.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service of Fayette.
