An autumn concert will be performed by Central Methodist University’s Chorale and Conservatory Singers on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m. in Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the CMU Fayette campus.

The Chorale is directed by Claude Westfall, associate professor of music and director of choral activities at Central. The Chorale has 30 student members and will be heading out on its annual tour Nov. 20-25. The Conservatory Singers are conducted by  Laura Wiebe, assistant professor of music. This is her first year with CMU, and she directs a group of 62 students in the Conservatory Singers.

The Chorale will be singing selections from its tour repertoire, which include “O Radiant Dawn” by James Macmillan, written as part of The Strathclyde Motets; “Sing Joyfully” by William Byrd, based on Psalm 81;  “Praise the Name of the Lord” from the All-Night Vigil by Sergei Rachmaninoff; “Kyrie” from Mass in G Minor by Vaughn Williams; “De Camptown Races,” arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw; and “There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ivo Antognini, based on a poem by Sara Teasdale. The Chorale will also sing a series of gospel and spiritual selections. They include “The Pilgrim’s Hymn” by Stephen Paulus; “Sinner Man,” adapted by Howard Roberts; “By and By” by Carol Barnett; “Always by our Side” by Mark Burrows; “You Better Mind” by Stacey Gibbs; and “Lead Me On” by Brian Schmidt.

The Conservatory Singers will perform, with accompaniment by Kelley Head, adjunct professor of music, “Hehlehlooyuh (A Joyful Expression)” by James Furman; “Alles Hat Seine Zeit (Skolie)” by Franz Haydn; “Jesu Dulcis Memoria” by Tomas Luis de Victoria; and “Saints Bound for Heaven,” a Shape note tune arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw. With the support of solos and additional accompanists, the Conservatory Singers will also sing “The Peace of Wild Things” by Gwyneth Walker with students Adam Christal (freshman education major from Boonville) on clarinet, Kay Wilken (freshman education major from Cole Camp), soprano, and Hershell Williams III (senior music education major from Fayette), tenor.
