The Higbee Tigers boys’ track team could get no higher than ninth place as a team on Saturday, but still managed to qualify in multiple events for the sectional event next Saturday.
To qualify, athletes must finish in the top four of their particular events. Senior Jamie Smith took first place in the discus throw by hurling the disc 37.08 meters, nearly four meters more than his closest competitor.
Sophomore Jordan Fuemmeler was able to advance with his third-place high-jump finish. His qualifying jump was 1.68 meters.
In the javelin throw, junior Anthony White finished second with a qualifying throw of 40.79 meters.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Tigers finished second and fourth, respectively in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay. The 4x100 team consists of freshman Joey Westfall, senior Madison Eames, freshman Raegan Derboven, and junior Hailey Derboven.
The 4x200 team is composed of sophomore Isabelle Welch, Raegan Derboven, Westfall, and Hailey Derboven.
