Dear Editor:
It has come to the attention of the Howard County 911 Board of Directors that there is some confusion about the different emergency agencies in Howard County and their responsibilities.
There are 9 different emergency agencies including the following:
• Howard County 911 Dispatch Center
• Howard County Sheriff’s Department
• Fayette Police Department
• Glasgow Police Department
• Fayette Volunteer Fire Department
• Howard County Volunteer Fire District
• Armstrong Volunteer Fire District
• Glasgow Volunteer Fire District
• Howard County Ambulance Service
Each of these agencies are governed by their own elected officials. They serve the citizens of their geographical location with their own specific expertise.
Howard County 911, unlike the above-mentioned agencies, is a Dispatch Center for Howard County citizens and serves the citizens by taking phone calls emergency and non-emergency 24/7 and relaying information to any of the above emergency agencies.
After the dispatcher relays the information to the appropriate agency, the outcome of the call is the responsibility of that agency.
If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to the correct agencies Director, Head of Department, or the Elected Officials serving that agency.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to clear up any confusion concerning this matter.
Respectfully,
Howard County 911
Board of Directors
