FAHA to Hold Membership Event Friday

Posted
A major membership push and revitalization effort for the Fayette Area Heritage Association (FAHA) will kickoff Friday evening, April 30.

All interested persons are invited to gather at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Joseph Church Hall on Highway 5. There will be a social hour with wine, cheese and hors d' oeuvr's. There also will be coffee and soft drinks. There is no charge.

Keynoting the annual membership event will be Elizabeth Freese of Jefferson City, historic architect with the State Office of Historic Preservation. The office is a division of the Department of Natural Resources. Freese will speak at 7 p.m.

'FAHA is alive and experiencing revitalization,' stated Michael Dimond, president of the group. 'We have a new group of enthusiastic officers and look to make 2004 a banner year for the group.'

Late last year, FAHA was able to sell the refurbished Eubank Brothers Building after earlier saving it from collapse. It is now being placed back into retail service.

Looking to the summer, the group has evolved plans to expand the popular outdoor wine and cheese event. Set for June 19, the gathering has been renamed a 'Midsummer's Night Fling' and will take place on the lawn of the historic Rethwisch home on Spring Street. It will feature the Kapital Kicks band and a catered barbecue from 6 to 9 p.m.

'We hope you'll take a few moments to be with us Friday evening,' Dimond said. 'We are actively working to recruit new members as we continue to look to the future. There are wonderful things happening now in Fayette related to a renewed interest in historic preservation. We need your help and support.'

Annual FAHA dues are $10 per year.
