Fayette senior Landon Schachtele signed a letter of intent last week to continue his trap shooting career at State Fair Community College in Sedalia next year.
Schachtele has been a member of Fayette’s A Team since he was a sophomore, recording a career best score of 94 out of a possible 100.
He will join a young team that has already performed well under head coach Sarah Manuel, who started the program two years ago. In March, the Roadrunners competed for eight days in Las Vegas in the NCSSAA National tournament, taking second place in both skeet and double skeet. Team finished with one All American, and Manuel was named National Coach of the Year for Division 5 Colleges.
“We’ve had some very good success in our program,” Manuel said.
Coach Manuel said she didn’t recruit Schachtele for the program. Rather, he found her during a campus tour.
“Landon actually found me. He was on a tour and said he was interested,” she said. “I’m super excited for him to be on the team.
Schachtele has been shooting from a young age, and began competing in high school. “It’s a hobby of mine that I like to do,” he said.
He has not decided on a major field of study for college, but intends to complete his general education courses at State Fair.
