Abbey Conrow scored 19 points in the first half, but it wasn’t enough for Fayette in a 62-46 loss to Sweet Springs in the third-place game of the New Franklin tournament.
The Lady Greyhounds scored a season-high 62 points and nearly reached their season scoring average by halftime, taking a 38-26 lead into the break.
“It was the exact people that we knew were going to be the issues that ended up scoring on us,” Fayette coach Valerie Foland said afterward.
Conrow led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds, but Sweet Springs had a pair of impact players in Michaela Malter and Ryan Johnson, who combined for 42.
“I feel like we have either offensive halves or defensive halves, and we have yet to have an offensive and defensive half,” Foland said.
“Everything that we talked about being a potential downfall in this game ended up being the demise of it.”
Fayette led 8-7 early in the contest before an 11-0 Sweet Springs run. Conrow’s fifth 3-pointer of the game brought Fayette within ten points at 36-26 just before the half. Laci Fuhlage scored eight of her 10 points in the second half. Jordyn Ball scored six points after halftime and finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
The Falcons (3-9) look to bounce back on Friday with a home game against Knox County (2-9).
