Despite a career-high 12 points from Kylea Hoover, the Falcons were unable to snap Scotland County’s winning streak on Friday. The Tigers (17-3) left Fayette (4-13) with a 54-31 victory, their tenth win in a row.
A 3-pointer from Kenzie Felten and a 3-point play from Sydney Spielbauer had Fayette in a tight 7-6 game early, but Scotland County took control with a 15-1 run and led comfortably the rest of the way.
Laci Fuhlage ended the run with a basket to make it 22-9. Hoover scored the next 12 points for Fayette, but the Tigers kept the lead at 15.
Scotland County limited the shot attempts for Fayette’s leading scorer Abbey Conrow, who had a rare off-day shooting the basketball. Her first points came on a pair of free throws late in third quarter. She had Fayette’s only field goal of the fourth quarter and finished with four points.
Felten added another 3-pointer in the third quarter to finish with six. Fuhlage also scored six points.
“Everybody did really well and stepped up when Abbey wasn’t able to produce,” Fayette coach Valerie Foland said.
“Kylea really showed more strength and offensive game than she has in the past, especially scoring. With her game last night… she kept us in the game, and two other girls scored six.
“So it was a night that luckily our team stepped up or we wouldn’t have been scoring very much. It just would have been nice for Abbey to be hitting on the same night that everybody else hit.”
