Fayette and Harrisburg players prominent on Lewis and Clark All-Conference team

Posted

There are 29 positions on the Lewis & Clark All-Conference first team. Twelve are filled with players from either Fayette or Harrisburg high schools. It seems only fitting after the 52-42 semifinal game played between the two teams last Friday night.

As the game was played, those 12 names were heard repeatedly over the public address system at Davis field in Fayette.

The teams were voted on by the coaches and they seemed to know what they were doing as they developed the teams. Taking the highest honor of Offensive Player of the Year was Fayette senior Garren Vroman. Rushing for 2,449 yards on 210 carries, Vroman averaged 11.66 yards per carry. In addition, he had 20 receptions for 430 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. All of this while running with a brace on his right knee.

Vroman, in addition to being the Offensive Player of the Year, was named as a First Team running back and kick returner. All of these choices were unanimous.

The first team quarterback was Harrisburg senior Tanner Lanes. All season long, the tall lefty carved up opposing defenses and left them wondering what had hit them.

Harrisburg senior Jace Carr was listed as one receiver on the First Team while junior teammate Austin Darwent was the First Team tight end. Fayette senior center Chris Brown and Harrisburg senior offensive lineman Brayton Stephenson made up two/fifths of the interior line.

Lanes, Vroman, and Carr were all unanimous choices.

Defensively on the First Team, the line was anchored by Fayette’s Chris Brown and Harrisburg senior Tanner Fike. Brown was a unanimous choice.

Hard-hitting Fayette junior DJ Moore nailed down one of the linebacker spots while Harrisburg’s Jace Carr and Fayette senior safety Tyler Bartholomew were defensive back picks.

The Second Team offense consisted of Harrisburg sophomore running back Hayven Samuels, Fayette junior running back DJ Moore, Fayette senior wide receiver Dalton Collins, and senior tight end Logan Wiswall.  For Fayette, senior Tyler Bartholomew and junior Malakai Graves were named offensive linemen as was Harrisburg junior Logan Fritts.

The defensive line was covered by Harrisburg seniors Gavin Curtis and Brayton Stephenson along with Fayette junior Malakai Graves.

Harrisburg juniors Anthony Alicea and Logan Fritts as well as Fayette senior Avery Powell were named Second Team linebackers.

The defensive backfield is held down by  Harrisburg junior Austin Darwent and Fayette senior Dalton Collins.

Fayette junior Ben Wells was named the Third Team quarterback, while classmate Chase Allen-Jackman was named wide receiver.

Fayette junior Haden Kelly was named to an offensive line slot as was Harrisburg senior Austyn Furlong.

Allen-Jackman was also named Third Team defensive end while teammate Logan Wiswall was named Third Team linebacker. Fayette freshman Michah Estes was also named to a linebacker spot.

Fayette senior Cale Hudson was named a defensive back.

Harrisburg junior Anthony Alicea was named as the Third Team punter while Fayette Senior Avery Powell was named the kicker.
